Default 92 lude auto to manual tranny conversion

My son and I are in the middle of a body swap (he flipped his first 92 lude after two weeks). His original 92 was a manual stick, but the replacement 92 shell was an automatic.

The mechanical items needed to do the tranny conversion are straightforward (clutch master/slave cylinders and fluid lines, pedals, shift linkages). However, I've noticed that there are some wiring harness differences, and the ECUs appear to be different models.

Has anyone done this type of conversion before or are there any articles out there on the internet that you've seen? I've done several searches with no success. I'm wondering how much of the wiring and/or ECU stuff needs to be swapped.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks funder. I can't find your post, if you get a chance, please reply with a link so I can watch it too. I'll be pushing forward with the conversion in the next few days no matter what, so I'll keep you posted. Hopefully the wiring diagrams I have will be detailed enough to tell me what I need to know.

could it be that one is 4ws. need more info on the 1st and 2nd car. some ludes even have a traction control option. also autos have their own computer. you might be able to eliminate all that extra wiring, you just have to do your best to trace it.

Both are 92 si w/ABS...and neither has 4ws. I'm not sure how to tell if either has traction control. The main differences that I see are several wiring bundles associated with the auto tranny gear selector on car #2. In addtion, the car #1 clutch pedal has a couple of wire pairs (likely cruise control and maybe starter interlock) that don't exist on car #2. I've downloaded what appears to be a Helm manual with decent wiring diagrams so hopefully I've got a shot at getting the rest figured out.

The good news is that I have relocated all of the mechanical clutch parts to car#2. Getting the fluid line relocated was the worst part of it since it lives behind a number of other hard lines (fuel, brakes, emissons). Everything else was straightforward but did require a couple of hours under the dashboards to swap out the throttle/brake and clutch pedal assemblies.

yeah, ECUs won't be the same. They'll be different. You might be able to get away with eliminating some wiring, but the wiring going to the clutch pedal is a clutch switch that allows the vehicle to start while holding the clutch down. good luck on the search,..i would try honda-tech.com honestly,..they'll be able to tell you in detail.

i say jus transfer all the wiring from the manual to the auto.....

auto tranny has a buttload more wiring than a manual. i woudl say buy a HELMs manual and this will show u all teh wiring for ur car. i woudl lend u mine but its about 5" thick and im all teh way in detroit.

h23,

thanks this is what we are doing. It is slow going because of the fan, heater, and A/C cores, but we are making progress. Thanks for the offer of the manual, but I've downloaded a PDF of a Helm manual.
